Dr. Barakat discussed with the Italian ambassador, Mr. Francesco Cerulli, relations of academic cooperation and ways of expanding academic teaching of the Italian language at the Syrian Universities. They also stressed the importance of creating new departments of archaeology at the Syrian Universities. 
It is noteworthy that Ministry of Higher Education has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with

La Sapienza
in the field of higher of education and scientific research where the two sides agreed to form a partnership to create the Higher Institute for Archaeological Studies in Idleb.
