Following the values and teachings of the tender and excellence represented by the late homeland martyr Basil al-Assad, Dr. Barakat and members of the Higher Education Council honor a number of professors with the awards of Basil Al-Assad Contest for Scientific Research. 
It is worth-noting that Ministry of Higher Education has already announced in February 2006 for a courageous contest prize for best scientific research by faculty members at the Syrian universities. 35 researchers applied for this contest. Their studies were sent to three arbitrators to select the best research in terms of sound scientific originality and methodology.
